ENACT develops a cutting-edge Cognitive Computing Continuum (CCC) for optimal resource management to support the deployment and dynamism needs of hyper-distributed applications. ENACT is moving beyond state of the art in both infrastructure and AI regarding computing continuums. Starting from infrastructure the project brings visibility to distributed resources and their connections by introducing Dynamic Graph Models capable of capturing and visualising the real-time and historic status information, connections, dependencies, etc. from diverse resources. These models will be used to develop a scheduler based on Graph Neural Networks (GNN) models that will be coupled with Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) agents to suggest the most suitable deployment configurations for hyper distributed applications considering needs such as latency, compute power, energy efficiency etc. ENACT scheduler will replace scheduling components of open-source orchestrators like KubeEdge. The integrated solution will enable the predictive and optimal management of diverse and distributed resources and adaptive management of decentralised data intensive applications in distributed ENACT data space. To take full advantage of the CCC, the project will provide an innovative Application Programming Model (APM) that supports the development of hyper-distributed applications and contribute in federated & distributed learning and execution. An SDK to develop APM portable applications will be developed. To further enable and secure the participation of new nodes in CCC, ENACT develops zero-touch provisioning services to automate the configuration and connectivity in the continuum and update graph models for real time orchestration. ENACT CCC will be validated in 3 pilots targeting to demonstrate a CCC that could be the future core framework for hyper-content distribution in Europe. International collaboration is planned as Japan Productivity Center has committed to support with knowledge sharing.
